We would like to recognize Mary Bourne as
having been granted,as of Oct. 20.
2008, Specialty Recognition as a "Board Recognized Specialist
in Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders."(BRS-S). This Specialty
Recognition required a stringent application process, and was given for
extensive clinical practice, mentoring and educating, research, and
extensive
Continuing Education and practice in swallowing disorders, including
advanced
knowledge and performance of Modified Barium Swallow exams, and
required
taking and passing a National Exam on Swallowing and Swallowing
Disorders.
It is granted by The Specialty Board on Swallowing and Swallowing
Disorders and is approved by the Council for Clinical Specialty
Recognition
of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
This is a prestigious recogniton, and
there is only one other SLP with the BRS-S in Oklahoma and only 100
total
in the U.S.
