The quarterly meeting of the Oklahoma Academy of Medical Speech-Language Pathologists was held May 26, 2010 at Integris Baptist Hospital, in Oklahoma City. The presentation began at 5:40 with introductions made by Kendra Oglesby, President. Mary Bourne and Julie Jones presented on “The MBS Standardization Protocol” prior to the business meeting. One contact hour of continuing education was given for the program along with certificates of attendance.
The business meeting was called to order at 6:35 pm by OAMSLP president, Kendra Oglesby. The meeting opened with announcements that two of our very active and valued members of OAMSLP, Mary Bourne and Janie Buchanan, will be moving out of state. Their departures leave position openings at Saint Anthony Hospital. Joey Burgtorf, Secretary, read the minutes for the last meeting which were approved without change. Barbara Sleeper, Treasurer, reported a balance of $9,672.72. Current membership is 57. Mary Bourne, Conference Chairperson, reported that we are all set to have the conference at the OUHSC Library on June 26th with Stephanie Daniels presenting on dysphagia.
Officer elections were next with the new officers elected as follows:
President: Leah Cannady, M.Ed., CCC-SLP
Secretary Joey Burgtorf, M.S., CCC-SLP
Membership/Treasurer Barbara Sleeper, M.Ed., CCC-SLP
Conference Chairperson Kendra Oglesby, M.A., CCC-SLP
The floor was opened for quarterly meeting ideas. It was suggested that the next meeting be held at a restaurant with a banquet room. Several very good topic ideas and speakers were suggested. The date, topic, place and time will be announced.

TUESDAY FEBRUARY 9, 2010
The quarterly meeting of the Oklahoma Academy of Medical Speech-Language Pathologists was held February 9, 2010 at Saint Anthony Hospital, in Oklahoma City. The meeting was called to order at 5:35 by Kendra Oglesby, President.
Janie Buchanan led the roundtable discussion regarding “Paradoxical Vocal Fold Dysfunction” and “Protocols for Evaluating Swallow Post Extubation” prior to the business meeting. One contact hour of continuing education was given for the program along with certificates of attendance.
Joey Burgtorf, Secretary, read the minutes for the last meeting which were approved with one change. Barbara Sleeper, Treasurer, reported a balance of $10,321.89. Current membership is 57. Mary Bourne, Conference Chairperson, reported that we were unable to secure Bonnie Martin-Harris as the speaker for our next conference. She has arranged for Stephanie Daniels to speak on dysphagia on June 26, 2010. Norman Regional Hospital and the OU Library were both suggested as possible sites for the conference.
Janie reported that she had done some research on scholarships vs. endowments. We will need to get a small group together to create a scholarship in honor of the late Jeanette Clemons.
Integris Baptist Medical Center will be the location of the next quarterly meeting, with Mary Bourne and Julie Jones as possible speakers to present on a conference they will be attending called “Moving Towards Standardizing Dysphagia Practice: Introducing the Modified Barium Swallow Impairment Profile (MBSImP)”. The date and time will be announced.

TUESDAY OCTOBER 13, 2009
The quarterly meeting of the Oklahoma Academy of Medical Speech-Language Pathologists was held October 13, 2009 at Integris Baptist Medical Center, in Oklahoma City. The meeting was called to order at 5:30 by Janie Buchanan.
Kendra Oglesby, OAMSLP President, led the discussion centered around “Current Clinical Practices in Speech-Language Pathology” prior to the business meeting. One contact hour of continuing education was given for the program along with certificates of attendance.
Barbara Sleeper, Treasurer was unable to attend. Kendra Oglesby read the minutes for the last meeting which were approved with no changes. Mary Bourne reported positive feedback from our 2009 OAMSLP conference with Nancy Helm-Estabrooks. Survey results were discussed. The floor was opened for ideas for the next conference speaker. The speaker will be Bonnie Martin Harris. A sign-up sheet was passed for conference committee volunteers.
Discussion regarding development of a scholarship vs. an endowment in honor of our founding member Jeanette Clemons, revealed areas of research to be conducted in order to initiate this process. This was tabled for the time being with the possibility of having a small group sign up to oversee this.
St. Anthony Hospital will be the location of the next meeting, with Dr. Scott, M.D. as a possible speaker. The date and time will be announced.
